How to Choose the Right Solar Street Lights for Your Needs

As a solar street lights manufacturer, we often receive inquiries and calls from customers who want to know how much a set of solar street lights costs.
To do this, we need to know that the price depends on the configuration, including:
How many watts of light are used
How the number of solar panels used in watts
How the number of Ah batteries used
Where the installation and the condition of the road
With this information, we can calculate the configuration of the solar street light and determine the specific price for a set of solar street lights.

Selection of basic components parameters and specifications

  1. Solar panel: Do not pay attention to the indicated wattage as it can be faked. Instead, look at the actual size of the panel. With the size determined, the power should not differ much.

  2. LED lights: The brightness of solar lights depends on this component. LED chips with wattage ranging from 0.1-4W per chip are commonly used, and vendors may use many low-power chips from 0.1-0.5W to make the lights, often claiming hundreds of watts, but the actual brightness may only be a few watts. Therefore, it is essential to know the actual driving power and total luminous flux.

  3. Lithium battery: Lithium batteries with 3.2V, 6.4V, 9.6V, 11.1V, and 12.8V are available in the market, among which 3.2V and 12.8V are the most common. The price difference between 12.8V and 3.2V systems is significant. To compare the capacity of batteries with different voltages, multiply the capacity by the voltage to get the capacity in watt-hours (WH), which allows for a more intuitive comparison of data.

4.Solar controller: Currently, there are independent controllers and linear controllers. The linear controller is much cheaper, costing only 30-40% of the cost of an independent controller, but it may lack performance, reliability, and protection for lithium batteries.

Evaluation of the rationality of the configuration

Power consumption of the light: Power consumption = light power full power working time
For a 6-meter solar street light, 30W LED lights are sufficient. If the light works for 6 hours, with 3 hours at full brightness and 3 hours at half-brightness, the power consumption is:
30
(3100%+350%)=135 WH

Solar panel power generation = solar panel power peak sunshine hours in the installation location generation efficiency
We can assume the peak sunshine hours to be 3 hours, which is the usual configuration (this information is available online for different regions). The generation efficiency is generally between 70%-75%, and we assume it to be 75%.
Taking an 80W solar panel as an example: 80 30.75=180WH. The generated power is about 1.3 times more than the power consumed, making this configuration reasonable. If the generated power is less than the power consumed, the configuration is not reasonable. Generally, a ratio of 1.2-1.5 times is appropriate.
*Lithium battery capacity = light power consumption number of days to support during rainy days / 0.9 (discharge depth) / battery voltage**
The lithium system is typically equipped to support 2-3 days during rainy days.

Assessing the rationality:
Power consumption per day (assuming the light is on for 6 hours per day): 606=360wh
Power generation per day: 20
3*0.75=45wh
This is an obviously unreasonable configuration.
