The working principle of grid-complementary street lights

The working principle of grid-complementary street lights, which utilize solar power generation and complement it with grid electricity, is as follows:

  • Solar Power Generation: Grid-complementary street light systems are equipped with solar panels that convert solar energy into direct current (DC) electricity. The solar panels are typically installed on or near the street light, ensuring maximum exposure to sunlight.

  • Energy Storage: The system includes a battery bank to store the electricity generated by the solar panels. The battery bank has sufficient capacity to store enough energy for nighttime usage.

  • Control System: A control unit is integrated into the grid-complementary street light system to monitor the power generation from the solar panels and the energy storage in the battery bank. The controller automatically switches the power mode of the street light based on ambient light conditions and the battery bank's charge level.

  • Nighttime Illumination: During nighttime or low-light conditions, the grid-complementary street light system automatically switches to the power supply mode from the solar panels and battery bank. The solar panels supply electricity through the charging and discharging process, while the battery bank provides power to the street light, ensuring normal operation at night.

  • Grid Electricity Supplement: If the solar panels cannot generate enough power to meet the street light's demand or if the battery bank's charge is insufficient, the system switches to the grid electricity supply mode automatically. The system connects to the grid power source to supplement the insufficient power demand, ensuring continuous illumination of the street light.

By harnessing solar power and complementing it with grid electricity, grid-complementary street light systems can utilize solar energy during periods of ample sunlight and rely on grid electricity during nighttime or low-light conditions. This design reduces dependence on the traditional power grid while ensuring stable illumination of the street lights.
